Born & bred in South Central LA, this duo has lived and survived in the
inner city. These righteous West Coast rappers have their premier album out
this month (produced by Barry G). They started touring with Dynamic Twins
(who call them "one of the phattest groups in Christian rap") in March.

With some help into the music industry by DII (Dynamic Twins) K*II*S
has their own album out now. The music is produced by Barry G another
artist on GrapeTree. I was able to make it to their album release
party and must say, K*II*S has got a real tight performance. For them
it is easy to get you moving in the crowd (even if it is chasing one
of the singles they threw out:-).

Vibes!
Philled. Guestperformances zijn er van All-Soul, Barry G. en K.Buc. De
CD is erg goed en strak gecustomized en geproduceert mede dankzij
Barry G. Een tekstueel proefritje van 't nummer 'How Shall They Hear
Without A Preacher': "How shall they hear without a preacher? If we
don't tell 'm how can we reach 'm? Go into the world and tell every
creature, teach about His love and how they need it.".

S.S.M.O.B. (Soul
Serving Ministers On Board), Lowriders, autotelefoon en beepers.
techniek achter in hun auto zien.
jaar was.

When Shon Dillard ("King Shon") was a drug dealer ten years ago, he hated
rap music. So it's mildly ironic that now, an ordained minister through
Victory Outreach, he and the S.S.M.O.B. (Soul Serving Ministers On Board)
have put out one of the hardest, funkiest rap albums in a long time, Papa
Didn't Raize No Punkz.
From the opening tracks "Kan-U-Se-Me"/"Bumpz Fo Yo Trunk," it's clear that
these vatos are giving other Christian rappers a serious run for their
money. Papa Didn't Raize No Punkz leaves behind the old-school style of
their previous release, Born Again Rebel From A Gangsta Level.
S.S.M.O.B. takes you right into the grim world of gangbangers, thieves, and
drug dealers; some of the songs are drawn from their own experiences in the
gangs before getting saved, and their tales are mind-blowing. But they also
take you into a world of a different kind, a 'hood where there is no murder
or pain, only eternal joy. The M.O.B.'s home turf is heaven, and in song
after song they boast that there's nothing on earth that's going to equal
"low-riding down Gold St."
Although Papa Didn't Raize No Punkz is somewhat long (over 76 minutes), the
production is top-notch, especially for an independent release. Producers
Chris Gunn, Chris Harris, and Larry Williford keep it hydraulically charged
throughout. All of the music is original--no overdubs or sampling--and the
cuts are phat on the funk. Cuts like "Bumpz Fo Yo Trunk" shine, as does the
anti-prejudice anthem "Given Luv 2 My People." "Ghettumup" is
booty-swinging fun, a classic party track steeped in early '80's-style R&B
that might even make your grandma get up and groove.
The album's best track, though, is also it's eeriest. "I Wanna Die" tells
of a gangster's suicide and the eternal consequences of his decision. The
haunting keyboards and King Shon's sinister narration bring the gangster's
decision to take his life to a chilling crescendo:
So I'm goin' to a place where Calgon couldn't take me,
'Cause I don't want to listen to those voices, but they make
me...
The voices gettin' louder, tellin' me to do it;
They're sayin' time to say goodbye; I gots no choice, I gots to
do it!
King Shon and S.S.M.O.B. prove on Papa Didn't Raize No Punkz that you can
funk for the Father. With original music, great lyrical style and the love
of Christ in their hearts, they're going to be around for a good long
while.

With his throaty rasp and machine-gun delivery, backed by some of the phattest tracks imaginable, King Shon has taken Christian rap
several bold steps forward, both in terms of music and language. Less like the sermons-over-beats that make up much of gospel rap,
Papa Didn't Raize No Punkz celebrates Jesus while "rollin'"--that is, cruising city streets in a very large car with big speakers that will do
amazing things if the right switch is flipped. S.S.M.O.B. know who they are speaking to, and while some may be put off by their
constant use of "the N-word," I'm sure those who are familiar and comfortable with such verbiage won't have a problem with it,
especially since tracks like "Ghettumup," "Bumpz Fo Yo Trunk" and "When We Creep" rock so unbelievably hard.

King Shon And Tha S.S.M.O.B.'s, "Papa Didn't Raise No Punkz", is on the whole a
good cd with nice tracks and flowin' lyrics over good drum beats. However, there
are some problems I have with the cd. The use of the "n" word is a little too
prevelent in a lot of the songs. It seems to cast a shadow over the gospel that is
trying to come through. Another thing is, the message that is trying to be relayed
in some of the songs never quite gets there. It'll start, then, never get there.
Nonetheless, these things aside, overall it's pretty good. Review:
