Stijl Rap
Het label Brainstorm bergt veel raptalent en daarom is in de recente
serie verzamel-cd's van die maatschappij ook een rap-album opgenomen.
De plaat bevat een aantal oudere en recente nummers van Freedom of
Soul, Idol King, SFC, Dynamic Twins en XL & DBD en dat is leuk. Wat
mij echter het meest boeit, zijn de 'previously unreleased' nummers,
de nieuwe dus. Dat zijn er drie en ze worden allemaal gekenmerkt door
een vette jazz-groove. De eerste is van LPG, mij onbekend, maar het
klinkt aardig. De tweede is van Freedom of Soul, samen met SFC.
Peace is weer fantastisch op zijn eigen relaxte manier aan het rappen,
over een mooie SFC-track. Het laatste nummer, C-Mode Funk, is van SFC
zelf en de kwaliteit is zoals we van Super-C gewend zijn: goed.
Hopelijk komt zijn lang verwachte nieuwe album snel uit. Brainstorm
Rap is een leuke CD voor personen die ook wel eens een HipHop-CD'tje
in hun collectie willen hebben en voor de echte fans vanwege de nieuwe
nummers.

This cd called "Muzik Ta Ride 2" a is sampling of artists under the
Grapetree Records label. It features some of the best Christian (and very
little heard of) rappers out there. It features$ Faze, God's Original
Gangstaz, K.II.S, Rubadub, and Lil Raskull.
Overall, I think that this cd is pretty good:

Het Holy Hip Hop Label Grapetree zet de koppeling in de vijfde
versnelling met deze CD. Bijna elk lid van de Grapetree family was
vroeger een gangsta, dopedealer, player of een crimineel. DJ Rubadub
was vroeger ook zo, hij dealde in drugs en deed wat criminele dingen.
Hij heeft uiteindlijk vor de Heer gekozen en begon in 1992 het blad
Heavens Hip Hop uit te geven en daarop volgde het starten van
Grapetree Records. Dit label is een zeer welkome aanwinst voor de Holy
Hip Hop. In de vorige R&&R stond dat de CD van Barry G. heel vet is
en alleen de produktie beter kon. Dit hebben de mensen van Grapetree
ook gemerkt en hun produktie zit nu strak in elkaar. Zes verschillende
acts, allemaal met een nieuw of aankomend album. KIIS, GOG'z, Lil'
Raskull en Rubadub maken allemaal gebruik van 'automuziek', dus veel
bas en losse, rustige beats en 'keyboardsoundjes'. Veel
gangsta-achtige raps over het leven aan de West Coast en daarna wordt
de oplossing natuurlijk gegeven voor hun leed. Barry G. en Faze hebben
een iets andere 'delivery' en muziek dat wat rouwer is en meer neigt
naar de East Coast. Als je wilt weten wat voor vorderingen er in de
Christelijke muziek zitten moet je zeker deze CD kopen want het laat
duidelijk zien dat Christelijke Hip Hoppers een eigen stijl hebben en
niet meer de seculiere Hip Hop nalopen. De trillingen van deze CD moet
je wel voelen anders ben je gevoelloos. Als je een auto hebt moet je
die goed verzekeren want als je deze CD in je auto-installatie stopt
dan is de muziek zo confronterend dat je ramen eruit springen!

Deze bovenstaande krachtige zinnen komen van de Brainstorm familie.
Met de CD 'Next Level of Hip Hop' bewijzen ze hun brainstorm talenten.
Een compilatie van SFC, Dynamic Twins en LPG. Er staan nummers van hun
laatste CD's op die ik straks behandel. Er staan ook enkele
instrumentale tracks op maar nieuw en exclusief zijn de nummers WE en
What's Happenin'. Het refrein van WE heb ik hierboven al opgeschreven,
het is een familie-song waar LPG, DII en SFC hun vaardigheden perfekt
verwoorden. Maar opvallend is het optreden van Peace 586 (Freedom of
Soul) waarbij hij in de herhaling valt (echo). De overige ingredienten
bestaan uit een jazzy piano eiwitten, een hoog cholesterolgehalte aan
vette beats en de diepe bas aan conserverings-middel. De produktie is
zo goed dat er geen 'tenminste houdbaar tot' op staat. Dit is voor
eeuwig!
De andere track die vertegenwoordigt is is het nummer What's Happenin'
waarin SFC ons informeert wat er gebeurt. De sample in het refrein is
van de 1e Wu-Tang album waarop Ol' Dirty Basterd rapt "rappenin' is
what's happenin'". Easy tunes van een relaxte groep. Voor eer
informatie over wat er gaande is moet je deze CD echt hebben. Maar d'r
is nu een probleempje want deze CD is moeilijk te krijgen in
Nederland, maar Rap&Roer is hard aan het werk om samen met Samma
'probleem CD's' zelf te importeren.

Run DMC is bekeerd! De grootmeesters van de RAP. RUN presenteert de eerste
artiesten op z'n christelijk platenlabel. Drie groepen met elk drie songs.
De eerste groep, de ZOE Brothers, zijn drie zangers die op een HipHop beat
echte funk maken. Half zingend en half prekend brengen ze een originele stijl.
Ze gaan het ver schoppen, want nu al is hun video van Sanctified te zien op MTV
en The Box. Ja, Run is van plan het groots aan te pakken.
De tweede groep is Sin Assassinz. Drie B-Boys uit de Boogie Down Bronx. Op één
nummer maken ze een variatie op Merci, merci me. Ze rappen hierin over wat ze
meegemaakt hebben in de Bronx. Deze Sin Assasins hebben echt super lyrical
skillz en ik zou graag meer van ze horen. In "What's a Sin Assasin" rappen ze
over een beatbox en freestylen ze. Maar ik denk toch bij freestyle aan iets
onvoorbereids.
De derde groep zijn 4 barbershop zangers, close harmony Nuf said.
Dit is een kans voor Chr. HipHop om de seculiere wereld te bereiken, want Run
DMC krijgt veel respect van HipHoppers envanmijook!
