Dokument - Planet Dok

2005 looked to be another big year for the Tunnel Rats with the announcement of the seven series. Every seven weeks we were going to have a new seven song EP to sink our teeth into. Unfortunately, things did not work out and in six months we have only seen two EP’s. The one thing that has kept fans going is the quality of the music that has been released. First up was Macho who dropped an EP full of heartfelt lyrics and one of the year’s best singles with Passion. Next up is Dert’s roommate Dokument the heavyweight from Texas.

At 7 songs you don’t have room for error and Dokument uses every second of the EP to drop his lyrical fire. The EP starts with The Foundation (Part II) that has Dokument dropping his dope lyrics over an even doper beat by Jermz. A great opener that has the emcee flowing effortlessly proving he can bless a track by himself. The next track is a posse cut that has everyone talking. Dok invites New Breed and newcomer Triune to help him catch wreck over a bangin beat by Theory Hazit. Dok, Elsie and Macho do some double time rhyming and Triune is as laid back as always to make this a must hear. Heavy-Wait is next up and Jermz delivers a track that your neck will regret as it snaps out of place. Props, Dok and Sojourn deliver the goods and make this a contender for the EP’s dopest cut.

A basic backdrop that bangs harder then Dok stomping his feet sets the tone for Warn You. Dokument, Macho and Sharlok Poems deliver the goods with true lyricism over a beat that bangs. The track is this reviewer’s favorite cut as it’s that ol boom bap that you never get tired of. The last track on the EP has Dok & Sev Statik tag teaming with Triune on the chorus. Donavan Luke Henry delivers an epic beat that compliments the emcee’s and proves to be a perfect closer.

Overall, this proves to be an above average EP from a newer member of the Rats. The guest spots are all very good but with only 7 songs it would have been nice to hear more of Dokument. He is a talented emcee and would have been interesting to see what he is capable of on his own. Other then that not too much bad to say about this offering, it is high quality beats and rhymes that Hip Hop is built on. Dokument has carried the tradition of quality music with his installment in the 7 series. He proves again why he was chosen to be a Tunnel Rat and moves up the list of emcee’s that you should keep your eyes and ears open for.
