I'll admit, I've never been a big fan of the whole Star
Wars craze; I never have been, nor will I ever be. Now
granted, there are millions of people out there who love the
two trilogies, but I am not one of them. That almost changed
though when I encountered an album by the name of Bar Wars:
Legends of the Ecclessia. What is Bar Wars? Simply put,
it's a play on the George Lucas trilogies that has been
flipped by some awesome Christian rap artists.
First, let's lay out the role players. First, we have
YSG-Kinobi (YSG-Timothy) the Emcee Master who executes the
dope lyricism. Next in line is Paco Fett (Paconaut) the Soul
'Ar Master who serves as the beatsmith for the project.
Then there is DJ Sean 3P-O (DJ Sean P) aka the DJ Master.
There is also Chango Fett (Change) who serves as Sonar
Master and Micro Fortuna (Micronaut) who is the Imagery
Master for the project. Each player serves an important role
in bringing this futuristic album to life.
Each of the songs on the album plays off the title of one of
the Star Wars movies. For example, "A True Hope" is a play
off "Episode VI: A New Hope" (aka the original movie) and
"A Track for the Clones" is a play off "Episode II:
Attack of the Clones." With that in mind, each member of
the Bar Wars team comes together to bring these movies/songs
to life in a hip-hop setting.
It doesn't make sense to point out individual tracks
because there are only 6 songs (7 if you include the bonus
cut). I will say that each is done to absolute perfection.
YSG-Timothy's lyrics are crisp and thought provoking, and
the production fits the movies so well that it makes you
feel that you're listening to a hip-hop version of the Star
Wars trilogies. I also love the Christian twist that is put
on each of these songs. An example of this can be found in
the song "Return of the Most High" (Return of the Jedi).
This track depicts in Star Wars imagery the return of the
Most High, Christ the King. Not to be forgotten is the
current state of hip-hop which is addressed in "A Track for
the Clones." It is here that YSG-Timothy tackles the
entertainment industry and how so many of today's artists
are copying the same formula to make their "hits."
Overall, this is a very solid project and I'm glad that
these five brothers in the faith took the time to put this
project together. Quite honestly, it's one of the better
projects that I've heard in 2006, and I'm only left
fiending for more. Yes, the six tracks covered each movie,
but they all come so hard that they just leave you desiring
more music. It was perfect mastery how they took the Star
Wars theme to create Bar Wars: Legends of the Ecclessia.
It's the best theme album I've ever heard, hands down. If
you want to cop this project, you can get it as a free
download @ www.BarWarsProject.com, so pick it up today!
