are dealt with by Blanca. Pablo and Manwell are the two
MCs.
Founded
Group 1 Crew was founded, when Manwell Reyes formed a bible
study for local musicians three years ago and united with
Pablo Villatoro and Blanca Reyes. The three brought their
diverse styles of music together and created their sound.
Sound
Their urban style and line up is reminiscent of another
crew: The Souljahz. Also a (former) Word Records band.
Other comparisons that are being made are with mainstream
artists The Fugees and The Black Eyed Peas. Our sound is
fresh, funky and live, explains Manwell. We can perform in
such a variety of styles - everything from melodic pop to
Spanish R&B. We aren't limited to one specific genre.
Compilations
The band can be heard for the first time on:
- Wow Hits 2007 (2006) with the track: Can't Go On.
Label
On April 27th, 2006 Fervent Records introduced Group 1 Crew
as the newest members of it's label family. The crew signed
a recorddeal to deliver 6 albums for the label.
Dove Awards 2008
The band won a Dove award in the category "Rap/Hip Hop Album
of the Year" for their selftitled debut album of 2007 at the
39th Annual GMA Dove Awards 2008. Group 1 Crew was also
nominated in the category "New Artist of the Year". The
award ceremony was held on April 23rd, 2008.
Dove Awards 2009
Group 1 Crew won a second Dove Award at the 40th Annual GMA
Dove Awards 2009 for their album "Ordinary Dreamers" (2008)
in the category Rap/Hip Hop Album.
They were also nominated for the video Movin’ (2009) in the
category Short Form Music Video.
And their track "Keys to the Kingdom" of the album "Ordinary
Dreamers" (2008) was nominated in the category
Rock/Contemporary recorded song.
Awards: Reader's Choice - 2009
At the website CCMmagazine.com Group 1 Crew was voted for
the 2009 Reader's Choice Award as the "Best Duo or Group".
EP
In November 2006, a 4-song EP was released as a digital
download, which featured their debut single "(Everybody's
Gotta) Song To Sing." If you bought the EP at the iTunes
Music Store, a free Digital Booklet was received with lyrics
and information on the band.
Albums
Their selftitled debut album is released on February 20th,
2007 through Fervent Records. Group 1 Crew recorded their
debut album with producer Chris Stevens. Chris Stevens is
also known for his work with TobyMac.
New Project
Besides releasing a special EP in December 2007 the band is
working on their sophomore album to be released in 2008. |
