Info:The Custodians are Joel the Custodian and Eliot Best.

Joel
Joel the Custodian is born and raised in Ireland. After completing his Media degree in Luton, England, he spent two years performing with a rap group in Cincinatti and Indianapolis in the United States.

DPS
Joel the Custodian’s first recordings emerged in 1997 as a part of an Indianapolis based rap group DPS, which later became the critically acclaimed group Mars ILL.

Michaelis Constant
In 1998 he returned to England to do youth work and kick-start a 'worship-art' movement with alt-folk musician and artist Ross Spencer. Back on UK soil, Joel helped form Michaelis Constant in 1998. They were labelled ‘Britain’s most unusual hip-hop team’ by The Big Issue. The first of their two albums, ‘Foreign Correspondence’ featured guest vocals by MOBO award winner Jahaziel.

Films
For the next 4 years he wrote, recorded and performed with Michaelis Constant. As the group went into hibernation, he co-founded local hip-hop social club 'Phantom Limb', helped co-ordinate The Wrong Exhibition and started writing and making short films.

The Custodians
In 2002 Joel met beat-maker Eliot Best, who as putting numerous old school machines to work developing his own brand of hard-as-granite, multi-layered hiphop music. Soon they were the Custodians.

Debut Album
Together with a dozen musicians and vocalists the Zang family recorded the album "Colloquial" (2005), a birthday present for Joel’s wife, Danielle.

Collaborations
Since then Joel has collaborated with numerous underground hip hop luminaries including Berlin rap-poet Gauner and New Flesh vocalist Juice Aleem. Meanwhile, Eliot has been producing electronic music for members of the South Brum hip hop network Phantom Limb.
