Releases: | [To Whom It May Concern] [Things People Do For Money (single)] | Info: | David Ellis, also known as Prodigal Son, was born in Balham,
South London on the 1st of July 1974. At the age of three
due to his parents’ separation he moved up to the East
Midlands to the City of Nottingham with his mother and elder
brother. As the youngest member of the family he was known
as the family entertainer, who wasn’t shy to pick up the
microphone or Breakdance at any special occasion.
Jamaica
In 1983 his mother remarried, and later the family
immigrated to Jamaica. Whilst in Jamaica David and his
stepfather experienced an armed robbery, when two masked
gunmen broke into their home and demanded money. Aged 14
David was terrified by this ordeal and thanks God daily for
his life - the life that he almost lost.
United Kingdom
1990 saw the return of the Prodigal Son to the United
Kingdom. David came back to finish his studies and attend
college. During this time he became involved with UK R&B
group “Coincide” for whom he wrote lyrics and choreographed
dance routines. David also played a key role in bringing
together another R&B/Rap group by the name of “Dove”.
Dove
Dove consisted of two Rappers and a female vocalist. At this
time David found himself living the life he rapped about,
stealing cars, partaking of violence and drugs. Whilst on
this road to disaster one of David’s close friends became a
“Born Again Christian”, intrigued by his friends’ dramatic
conversion David soon followed and made the commitment to
follow Christ.
Solo
David felt the calling to his solo ministry as "The
Prodigal Son (UK)" after a brief period in a christian rap
group. A lot of hard work and perseverance and of course the
Grace of God has opened many doors for David.
Media
He has enjoyed numerous media appearances including TV and
Radio. David has also been a support act for a number of the
worlds leading Gospel Artists. These include Kirk Franklin,
Fred Hammond, Dawkins & Dawkins, Papa San, Carlene Davis,
Stitchie, Junior Tucker, Chris Willis, And Trinitee 5; 7.
Awards
Whilst David has enjoyed all of this he quite easily points
out that for him the greatest thrill is to see a life
touched or a soul saved through his ministry. David also won
Best Solo Male and Best Overall Performance Awards, at the
Gospel Newcomers Competition May 2003, which was a
recognised achievement.
Name
The name Prodigal Son is taken from the 'Lost Son' parable
told by Christ in Luke chapter 15 verses 10-24 (key verse 10
'I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the
angels of God over one sinner who repent'). As the Lost Son
in the parable came to his senses, so it was with Prodigal
Son (UK), after a brief spell of carnal and lascivious
living he returned to his father's house where he shares
his new and former experiences to a lost generation.
