producer, plus Cosm who is a DJ and a producer as well.
Based in Calgary, Canada they describe their sound as
"vintage, jazzy, funky, boom-bap hip hop music with a
positive perspective". The crew got formed in 2002.
Performances
The group has performed across Canada and parts of the
United States, and have shared the stage with many top acts,
including De La Soul, Pete Rock, Del the Funkee Homosapien
and The Beatnuts.
Albums
Originally intended as a side collaboration project, Dragon
Fli Empire's debut "Conquest" was a CD-R release in the
summer of 2002, but because of it's succes it got
re-released with extra songs and new artwork in 2004. Two
singles of the album got media attention "Mount Pleasant"
and "D-E-F". In 2005 their sophomore album "The Invasion LP"
saw the light.
Nominations
Dragon Fli Empire is nominated for their album "Redefine"
(2009) in the category Best Rap/Hip Hop album at the 2009
Western Canadian Music Awards, The awards take place
September 17th - 20th, 2009 in Brandon, Manitoba.
Compilation
In 2007 an exclusive compilation for Japan was released on
P-Vine Records and consists of tracks from the two first
albums Conquest (2004) and The invasion (2005).
New Project
The crew released their third album entitled "Redefine" in
2009. The project was first called "DEFinition". |
