Pop Heavenly and the Heavenly Boyz
As a child, Will began his musical career writing lyrics for
and performing with his group, Pop Heavenly and the Heavenly
Boyz (P.H.B.), which consisted of his four brothers and his
father along with himself. Nicknamed "the Gentlemen of Rap",
P.H.B. crossed cultural and generational boundaries with
their family-oriented message of positivity and hope amidst
a dying world.
Experience
During the 10 years that the group was active, Pops and the
Boyz toured the country a number of times, performing in
countless major cities as the opening act for many famed
entertainers. This gave Willie the experience, foundation
and professionalism that he'd take with him throughout his
career. Coined as the main writer of the group, he also
sharply developed as a lyricist, receiving accolades from
numerous noted personalities such as Ben Vereen, Jesse
Jackson, Kirk Franklin and Treach of the rap group Naughty
By Nature to name a few.
Break Up
After the break-up of Pop Heavenly and the Heavenly Boyz in
early 2000, Willie Will decided to trade in his flashy suits
of the group for jeans and boots and take to the streets of
Seattle, giving birth to his solo hip hop career.
Belief
Fueled by a solid foundation and belief in God, Willie's
desire to see lives impacted by his music ignites his
passion to deliver his street-edged rhymes over cutting egde
beats,
Debut Album
In the four short years of his solo career, Willie Will has
indefinitely exceeded all expectations. In October of 2000,
he dropped his first solo release, "The Rhythm and Wisdom
System", selling over 1500 units out of his trunk on the
streets of Seattle's metropolitan area.
Buzz
In 2001, the CD created a buzz that led to airplay on
Seattle's number one top 40 radio station, KUBE 93 FM. The
radio spins opened the door for countless performances in
the city's premier nightclubs, rap concerts, talent shows,
block parties, high schools, churches, juvenile detention
centers and some of Seattle's major music venues.
Sophomore album
In 2003, Willie Will released his second independent CD,
"Premeditated Worda", which has sold over 1,000 copies to
date in local stores and on the streets. The album got him a
nomination for best rap artist at the 2003 NorthWest Music
Awards, sponsored by Seattle's number one gospel music
station, C 89 FM. It also brought him more radio airplay by
KUBE 93 and C 89, local television exposure on a number of
occasions, and most recently, a tour throughout the South
opening for some major names in hip hop music.
Compilation
Willie Will can also be heard on the Holy Hip Hop Volume 3
compilation (2005) with the track "You Never Know".
