Info: | Nathaniel M. Reeves is CEL-D. He's from Parkhill in Staten
Island, New York, but currently resides in Raleigh, North
Carolina, where he came to attend Shaw University.
Name
His name C.E.L-D is an acronym that stands for Combining
Extraordinary Lyrics, which he got from a childhood friend,
Brother Wonda also known as Dubbsack. The D was later added
by Tawee (Tyrone Hill) with no intial meaning until Precise
said "Combining- Extraordinary- Lyrics- Devinely".
Label
Aside from his own solo career he has started his own label
G.I.F.T.E.D Music, which will feature such artist as PM
Prayin Maner of the Foundation, Smitty B.L.A.C.K, Rigz, Hak,
and various compilation albums in partnership with Earl
Calliar of BOCC.
Collective
He will also be teaming up with the hip hop collective
Royale Order, which will consist of family members C.E.L-D,
Corey Red, Precise, Rigz and Hak.
Just Hip Hop
The rapper chose in October 2007 to drop the label
"christian artist" and to make music without loosing his
spiritual roots: "I've sent my demo to every christian
record company known to man and they all said the same thing
"You Need To Be More Commercial" Never! I dont know who
commercial is, but I think he should be more like me. So in
I'm moving back to ny to be front and center in the
music/basketball mecca. I'm done with christian labels
offering 10 albums deals with $20 advances and no publishing
or creative control and a whole lot of booking. If I'm gonna
get rapped at least give me enough recoupable money so that
I can move my mom outta the hood and quit my 9-5! I'm gonna
be changing my music up a bit, because I feel to much of
todays christian music is only christian entertainment and
not evangelical. I no longer consider myself a christian
artist I just do hip hop [...]".
Albums
His debut album "Who Iz CEL-D?" is released on G.I.F.T.E.D
Music/M2Music Inc and distributed through Book World Music
in 2006.
Stop
The MC released a blog on June 23rd, 2008 after being
dissapointed in the christian rap scene: "After much
contemplation and alot of regret I have come to the
conclusion that it's time to step away from rap! It's the
hardest decision I've ever had to make but for a while at
least, I know I must. It's actualy been almost a year since
I've worked on anything and the december event (royal order
meets frontlynaz) was the last time I did an event. I cant
say it was a great run because it never really was much of
one. In all honesty the music was never really supported
much and well, that was the whole purpose. I'm tired of
coming up with master plans that don't pan out. I'm tired of
hearing everyones idea of what I should do (because none of
it works). Fans aren't fans anymore nowadays everyones a
critic. "
