all about a vision and that vision being saving souls.
Deriek Smith (Son of Jesse) is the vessel that God is using
to head up SGR.
Tool
He was given more, than just the normal talents to rock a
mic. He was given leadership qualities to handle a task such
as taking a christian label and turning it into a soul
saving tool. Usually when a label is created the idea is to
make money first, but in SGR's case, Son of Jesse is
steadfast in his belief that with reaching the masses and
changing lives, the blessings from that out weigh any
monetary amount received.
Acts
In Acts 13:22 it says, "And when he had removed him, (Saul)
he raised up unto them David to be there king: to whom also
gave their testimony and said, I have found David, the son
of Jesse, a man after mine own heart, which shall fulfill my
will." The same can be said of this modern day Son of Jesse.
Father
Who's father name was also Jesse. He passed away when Deriek
was 15 but he has left a lasting impression that Deriek
strives to impress on knowledge his father gave him.
Genuine Love
If you were to spend any amount of time with Son of Jesse,
you would know that he has a geniune love of Christ and a
willingness to do what is asked of him. Son of Jesse knows
that it is important to have more than religion in your
life, but a lasting relationship with Jesus. He is man of
many scriptures but you can find him dwelling in the book of
Proverbs searching it for the necessary wisdom to do what he
is called to do.
Saving Souls
Son of Jesse was recently quoted saying, "God knows what he
is doing. When the time is right we will be able to benefit
from laboring in the Gospel finiancially if that is his will
but right now that is not what it is about. It is about
changing these lives through the music." Son of Jesse is
taking no shorts in saving souls and we will all benefit
from him doing that.
Albums
Ever since he walked away from secular rap in 1997, he has
been a strong pillar of faith. He dropped his debut album
called, "The Prodigal Son" in 2000. You can still catch him
dropping a line or two on future SGR labelmate's CDs but his
focus has changed.
New Project
On July 3rd, 2008 a new solo effort from Son of Jesse is
announced called "Last Man Standing" to be released in 2009. |
