Country: | United States |
Releases: | [Outta Control] [Threat to society] [Loud N Clear] [Vigilante Of Hope] [Rappin' Bold] [My favorite rap (single)] [RRRock it Right] [No solution (single)] [Wise up (single)] | Info: | Michael Peace is one of the first solo artists, who started
with holyhiphop in the nineteen eighties. During that time
he was a resident director at a college, where he was
working on his Masters degree.
MC
He became a professional christian MC in 1985, when he could
not do his regular job anymore, because of the great demand
for him to perform. At that time he still did not have a
recordcontract. In 1987 he got married, then in his own
words "God told me to minister by faith and not charge a
fee". He could make 1.000-2.500 dollars for a concert at
the height of his career. The couple depended on God to
provide for the ministry and He did.
Radio
In the beginning of the holyhiphop the music of the artists
was not played on the radio and they did not get to perform
at the big concerts. This didn't bother Michael Peace: "I
didn't get into Christian hip hop to be recognized or
admired, but to see the Kingdom of God advanced".
School
In 1995 Michael Peace stopped travelling and he focussed on
his city Rochester in the state of New York. He wanted to
bring the gospel to the schools. In the first year he went
to 27 schools. Soon after he became a youth pastor at his
church, so he could provide a homebase for the children. He
visited schools until 1999, but he and his wife still work
with children to disciple them.
Drummer
Michael Peace started out as a drummer in a band, but during
a youth service he prayed how God could use his life. He
later felt he should start a band to spread the gospel and
he suddenly began to write rhymes. While he had no idea
about poetry or had the intention to rap.
Albums
The records of Michael Peace have a soulful feel to them.
His debutalbum RRRock it Right got released on Reunion
Records in 1987. Since it's quoted as "Reissued as
REND-24357" and a fan recalls a music cassette of
non-Reunion Records origine Michael Peace must have had this
album already released as an independant artist before he
got signed.
