Originally entering the hip hop scene as a novice, who went
by the name C Soldier (Christ's Soldier), now after
receiving more wisdom, many experiences, trials and
tribulations, backsliding, and more discipline with God he
has emerged to become whom we know today as Apolegetics.
Hip hop
Apolegetics grew up in the church almost his whole life but
he only started listening to hiphop from the age of 9 (grade
4). For the first few years of listening to hip hop he was
not really into it. He mainly just listened to the popular
mainstream artists, it wasn't until the start of his
teenage hood that he really started to appreciate it and
listen to it on a larger scale.
Faith
At the age of 12 he came to know Jesus Christ as his Lord
and personal saviour. As Apolegetics states: "This was a
major event in my life, I started to take my life and things
in it more seriously, I started to screen what I did, things
I said, and even the places I went! "
Kirk Franklin
Ever since he started listening to hiphop all the music had
been secular, the release of Kirk Franklin' Nu Nation
video: Revolution, sparked his first encounter with a good
gospel hiphop song or video. "There wasn't really that
much Gospel hiphop at the time that I knew about and the
stuff that I did hear I felt was whack, especially compared
to the secular." Eager to find better Gospel hiphop,
Apolegetics searched TV, radio, and even the internet.
Cross Movement
In 1998, he heard a couple tracks off The Cross Movement's
second album "House of Representatives" and his search was
over. "I rolled up on some crazy skilled underground Gospel
hiphop artists …The Cross Movement, these guys were the
first real quality gospel hiphop artists I came across,
these cats turned me on to Gospel hiphop."
Name Change
His growth as a child of God and the increase involvement
with gospel hip hop caused him to change his name from C
Soldier to Apolegetics. His new name means to defend your
faith, and is also someone who has a full general knowledge
of the Bible where their able to defend against someone who
comes with questions, accusations, or views contrary to the
Word Of God.
Performance
Apolegetics has made it a point when performing to do what
it takes to get the message he's trying convey across to
the audience. He accomplishes this by reading scripture,
doing acapellas, using various body actions to act out what
he's saying, using vivid wordplay, and throwing lyrical
punches.
Live
Apolegetics has performed live at various events such as:
his church, outreaches, schools, concerts, youth jams, even
a funeral! He has opened for the Gospel Dance Hall artist
Prodical Son at a concert with over 1500 people.
