Releases: | [Listening Session (Japanese version)] [Listening Session] [Ms. O'Ginny (single)] | Info: | Verses from Cincinnati was inspired in his youth by hearing
Rapper's Delight and The Breaks on the radio. From that
point on he began to rap, forming groups and crews with the
other kids in his neighbourhood. His first MC name was Kid
Fresh and his first song, ‘It’s a Cold, Cold World,’ was
written with his older cousin.
Conscious
Over time he had become a huge advocate of the hip hop
culture. But the decline of the conscious rap movement and
over-commercialization of hip hop in the nineteen nineties
began to take a toll on his love for the music. In contrast
he would pen his rhymes fueled by his faith in God.
Rhymes Elect
In 1996, at Iowa State University, he helped form the crew
Rhymes Elect, which began doing shows at local churches in
Central Iowa. Over the years Rhymes Elect has performed in a
number of cities and the crew has released one record named
Lyrical Resurrection in 2001.
Debut album
In 2005 Verses began to work on his debut album called
"Listening Session", which is released on February 28th,
2006.
Japan
In September 2006 Verses announced a licensing deal with
Goon Trax/Media Factory to release his debut album
"Listening Session" for Japan on January 10th, 2007. The
CD has a couple bonus tracks (one featuring Rhymes Elect's
Signet-ring). It also features a remix of Ms. O'Ginny by
Japanese producer Shin-Ski.
Guest appearance
His wife Chloë makes a guest appearance on Verses debut
album. |
