Info: | John K. Wells is the Tonic and member of the Cross Movement.
He was about to release his debut album The Dash on CMR
(Cross Movement Records) on April 19th, 2005. The album
seemed shelved, but was finally released in 2009.
Shelved
The album was shelved as the following press release states
[October 1st, 2007]:
Long Anticipated Album "The Dash" from The Tonic Postponed
Indefinitely
To Whom This May Concern:
It is with much regret and shame that I inform you that the
long anticipated album The Dash from John Wells-The Tonic
will be postponed indefinitely.
It is unfortunate that this project will most likely never
see the light of day. There will be no more anticipated
release dates, with the exception being that if there ever
is another announcement of this project, the finished master
and artwork will be simultaneously in hand at
manufacturing.
In various positions of leadership, people are often
required to make sacrifices on behalf of the whole rather
than just their own interest. Though I still think I have a
lot to contribute as a solo artist, I have not been able to
elevate that desire above the need and responsibility to my
company, my community and my artists. Any good athletic
coach would declare that the greatest job they can do is to
put their players in the best position to make plays. I too
have always tried to make sure that my staff and artists
have the best platform that we can provide in order for them
to effectively score for the Kingdom of God, and this is
where I will still concentrate most of my effort. That being
said, CMR is approaching its 10 year anniversary in 2007. We
are gearing up for our biggest, most celebrated year yet
with the release of many of our and the Christian Hip-Hop
genres best selling artists (The Cross Movement,
Da'T.R.U.T.H., FLAME, J.R., and many others).
It is my prayer that the shortcoming of this project and my
inability to deliver, will not hinder our ability to
continue to effectively co-labor with you in reaching this
generation with quality Urban and Hip-Hop music and
ministry. Again, I sincerely apologize to anyone this has
affected. Please forgive me Provident (Executives and Sales
Representatives alike), Retailers and Music Buyers, Radio
representatives, Media representatives and anyone else who
has been frustrated by these failed attempts. It was never
my intention to do so. Thank you for you time and may the
Lord bless you.
Regretfully,
John Wells- The Tonic
Artist/President Cross Movement Records
Explanation
In 2009 the album would get released. The press release of
March 30th, 2009 states: "Beyond his role as a solo artist
and founding member of The Cross Movement, The Tonic also
serves as president of Cross Movement Records as well as a
husband and father. It is a difficult balance that he never
anticipated when he began his current journey. “If I had
known how hard it would be, I probably wouldn’t have done it
this way,” he says.
Illness
A sudden illness several years ago didn’t make things any
easier when the stress of this juggling act triggered severe
anxiety attacks, a condition The Tonic initially thought was
heart-related. Because of his declining health, he had to
shelve his work on The Dash at the time and even told his
distributors that the album would never come out.
Healing
Over the last year as God began healing him from the
condition, The Tonic decided that he needed to focus first
on his family and the label’s upcoming projects and put his
own solo project on hold yet again. Once things settled at
the label, The Tonic was able to turn his attention to his
own project at last. He is excited about finally introducing
his fans to the project that has been years in the making,
but the victory is bittersweet because of the time that was
lost and the knowledge that it could happen again if he
doesn’t take precautions for his health."
Releasedate!
On December 19th, 2008 the news came out a a releasedate was
set for "The Dash". The album came out on March 31st,
2009.
