Releases: | [Legacy] [Strictly Business EP] [Green light] [Green Light EP (sampler)] | Info: | Legacy is born Brandon Greene in Buffalo, New York in 1978.
He relocated to the Tampa Bay area in 1992 with his family
when he was 14 years old. Legacy has been involved in radio
and the music scene since 1994.
Debut album
His debut album from 2004 "Green Light" is an independent
release of hip-hop music and lyrics he has written and
mostly self-produced. The first release of "Green Light" was
presented by the Flavor Alliance, a hip hop ministry out of
Crossover Community Church in Tampa, Florida. Although the
artist is not an orginal member of the label's roster
anymore, he still works quite often with them.
Urban Missions
Legacy graduated from The School of Urban Missions in New
Orleans, Louisiana in 2001. He then packed his bags to
return to Florida in order to serve the ministry of
Crossover. Legacy supported the vision and mission of the
church by preaching, teaching Bible studies, showing youth
how to make hip-hop beats and DJ-ing. He also spent time
assisting the church in outreaches and concerts for the
Crossover Church and the Flavor Alliance from 2002-2004.
Christ
Legacy reveals how he came to Christ and got involved in hip
hop music: "Before I knew the Lord, I used drugs, had
pre-marital sex, I drank daily, and was rebellious to my
parents and to God. At the age of 15 I lost a close friend
in an unusual and violent death. He was beaten, run over by
a truck and left lying in the street. We buried him and
poured out some liquor for our dead homie."
No Change
I thought I might die this way too and tried to straighten
up, but I still didn't change. I just kept on drinking,
smoking weed, and sleeping around, running around with
dealers and friends who kept getting locked up. In 1995 I
too faced death and the Spirit of God spoke to me saying,
"Choose life or choose death. Your life will either lead
people to life or to death. Which will it be?"
Jesus
Legacy turned to Jesus Christ and was reminded that his life
would leave a "Legacy" for life or for death and he wanted
it to count for eternity and for Him. He was delivered and
set free from his sinful lifestyle. Almost immediately he
began telling everyone he knew about the Lord.
Rap
He and his friends were huge hip hop fans and he was playing
around with mixing underground tapes when one day he decided
to write a rap song. "My friends thought it was hot and
began putting me on to do bits here and there. As I saw them
receive the words and my testimony of Christ's saving power,
I knew that God was up to something through hip hop. It was
then that I realized I could effectively communicate my
testimony and the Gospel through Hip-Hop."
Students
At present he and his wife Pam, who is also a student, are
serving the School of Urban Missions. It is a two-year Bible
College that combines academic excellence with hands on
ministry training. The school consists of two campuses
located in New Orleans, Louisiana and Oakland, California.
It is jointly owned by the Assemblies of God and the Church
of God In Christ (SUM).
Ministers
SUM as it is commonly called, is training ministers to go
into the urban centers of America and the world. Legacy is
on staff as the Student Ministries Field Director working as
the arms and legs organizing various outreaches, Campus Days
events and leading worship for chapel services. He also
works part time in the Recruitment department.
Flavor Fest Record Project
During Flavor Fest 2007 in Tampa Bay, Florida artists like
Urban D, Legacy, Ras, RawSrvnt, Braille, Minister RMB,
Knowdaverbs, and others were recorded rapping on some dummy
beats. The majority of the recording took place during the
event on Friday and Saturday, and during non-conference
hours such as seminars or concerts. Legacy is completing
these tracks at his Tampa studio, Leg Up Music. He hopes to
finish the project around February/March to make it ready
for a Summer/Fall release in 2008.
Holy Hip Hop Honoree
Legacy is selected to be honored at the 2009 Holy Hip Hop
Awards in Atlanta, January, 2009.
Albums
In 2004 his debut album Green Light is released on Fla.vor
Alliance. A new selftitled album is released in 2007.
New projects
