"Of gods and girls" on Miclife Recordings (Japan) in
2007.
Tattoo
Mr. J Medeiros was tattooed on the TV show Miami Ink, TLC
(The Learning Channel). The show was aired December 12th,
2006.
Constance
Mr. J officially launched his anti childtrafficking campaign
"IamConstance.org" in Los Angeles on July 18th, 2007. A
website that relates to the non-traditional, "hit" single of
the album Of Gods and Girls (2007): "Constance".
Prostitution
"Constance" is the true story of a girl raised in The
Philippines, kidnapped, and forced into prostitution and
internet pornography at a young age. The video for
"Constance" (which has already compiled over 100,000 views
on YouTube), illustrates how Americans support this scenario
everyday through "legal" and "illegal" internet porn sites.
Responsibility
"People don't see the connection between clicking on the
internet here and someone being raped in a hotel room on the
other side of the world," exclaims J, "I want people to
recognize our responsibility in what is happening here.
Child pornography is a $3 Billion dollar market and the porn
industry all together is $57 Billion worldwide; it brings in
more money than professional football, baseball, and
basketball franchises combined."
Constance video
Mr. J. says his video "Constance" was denied by MTV for
being too controversial regarding the subject at hand: "I'm
on Rawkus/Sony, the label that first put out Talib Kweli,
Mos Def, etc. Now they all got videos on MTV ! But me?
Mr.j.Medeiros? They refuse to show because they say, "It is
too controversial". After they told me too "take the shot of
the condom out", which was just one of a long list of things
they wanted to change. Including lyrical content !!! What?"
Not MTV yet, but on August 20th, 2007 Mr. J. sent out a
bulletin stating VH1 picked up the "Constance" video. VH1
stands for Video Hits One, and is directed to an older
audience, than it's sister channel MTV.
MTV Base
The MC got better results, when Rawkus pushed the video
"Keep Pace", which received rotation on the program MTV Base
(MTV United Kingdom). The hip hop program makes use of a
chart based on votes by viewers.
New Project
In an interview with Sol of HipHop radio (April 2007) the
rapper confirmed he and Stro are working on an album
together.
Albums
His album "Of Gods and Girls" received it's international
debut through Rawkus Records in July 2007. The album is an
enhanced CD containing two videos: Constance [original
version] and Keep Pace.
Differences
The Japanese version (Miclife Recordings) has two different
bonus tracks: Half A Dream (Siamese Sisters Remix) featuring
DJ Destro and Amelie (Mike Kilo Sentimental Remix) as to the
American version (Rawkus) that has the bonus tracks: Honest
Man Hustle and Keep Pace (Stro Remix).
Labels
After Mr. J. Medeiros left his label Rawkus Records in 2008.
The rapper announced on September 14th, 2008 he would
release his sophomore album on Quannum Projects.
On May 31st, 2009 he officially stated his release "Friends
Enemies Apples Apples" will come out on the label Quannum
Projects.
New Project
On December 12th, 2007 the MC announces his sophomore album
"Last Stars". The title would be changed into "Friends
Enemies Apples Apples" in 2008.
